Sean was referred to Sacro by his Criminal Justice Social Worker.
He is on a Community Payback Order with an 18-month Supervision and Conduct requirement. He has a short forensic history and has experienced time in prison. His current order relates to an Assault Charge. This conviction and his previous history were all alcohol related. Sean currently lives alone in an isolated part of the city. This isolation is compounded by a significant mobility disability. Although Sean does not use his disability as an excuse for his past behaviour, it has been a source of frustration and isolation in his community.
Sean’s contact with Sacro’s Lived Experience Peer Support service was tentative at first but his support worker used assertive out reach skills to start building this relationship. Now a healthy professional relationship is underway, Sacro’s support worker is able to gain a fuller picture of Sean’s support needs.
Isolation and boredom were major factors in Sean’s chaotic behaviour. He has no family and is isolated geographically from his social circle. As he was anxious about a forthcoming court appearance, Sacro’s support worker supported Sean on the day. It was also decided to apply to Connecting Scotland for a computer and internet access on Sean’s behalf. He was awarded both and this has enabled him to pursue his hobbies and interests online, something which has gone some way to relieving his isolation and boredom.
The support and direction provided by Sacro’s Lived Experience Peer Support service has helped Sean greatly. He now feels less isolated and has practical support to help him with the small things that make such a difference to his home environment. When Sean recently broke one of his crutches, his support worker was able to source a replacement at short notice; something that would have taken Sean some time to arrange while having a major impact on his mobility in the interim.
He now feels less isolated and has practical support to help him with the small things that make such a difference to his home environment.
The service continues to support Sean in making the most of his situation and his Sacro worker is confident this support will help him complete his order, remain crime free and get more from his life.
