The Lothian Veterans Centre (LVC) runs a drop-in centre for forces veterans living in the Dalkeith, Midlothian and surrounding locality. They help in a multitude of areas from housing applications, Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payment applications, securing mental health appointments through partner agencies to name but a few.

Staff from the Sacro Veterans Mentoring Service (VMS) were invited to attend their bacon roll morning on 24 February 2023. The service has had a successful partnership with LVC for several years leading to various referrals to the VMS service.

Also in attendance was a representative from Army Benevolent Fund (ABF)(Scotland), the Soldiers Charity. John Gillie is one of three fund raisers for ABF. As coincidence would have it, both Andrew Gray, VMS mentor, and John served in the same regiment, accumulating 73 years military service between them, as well as attending the same secondary school in the Scottish Borders.

At an enjoyable and worthwhile event, John and Gavin Phillip, the VMS team leader, delivered well-received presentations about their respective services to an audience of 25 older veterans.

Staff at LVC still believe that Andy’s choice of roll and condiment are not of this world!
